Le groupe a été fondé en 2003 dans le milieu underground de La Chaux-de-Fonds (CH) sur la base d’un projet de rock alternatif qui allierait des sonorités 70’s issues des prémices du punk-rock et des dernières années du heavy, tout en y ajoutant des thématiques textuelles du folk et de l’americana traditionnel.
L’atmosphère ouvrière propre à la ville d’origine du groupe ainsi que les expériences personnelles de chaque membre est l’inspiration première des sujets abordés dans les compositions de Y825 (prononcé « why eight to five », allusion tout juste voilée aux horaires de travail).
Fidèle à ses prédécesseurs, de nombreux changements de line-up ont ponctué les premières années du combo, trouvant enfin son âme avec la formation actuelle. Les influences et le background musical de chacun des musiciens apportent une touche totalement exclusive à l’univers artistique de Y825, résultant dans un rock sobre, direct et sans concession.
Après s’être forgé une forte identité scénique lors de nombreux concerts en Suisse et à l’étranger, le groupe a enregistré son 1er album (2006 / ESP Records / Distr. Phonag) en 2006, collaborant avec C. Kamber (enregistrement & mixage) et George Marino notamment (Sterling Sound Studio, New York City - Led Zepplin, Dandy Warhols, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Arctic Monkeys, etc.).
Faisant suite à d’élogieuses critiques dans la presse généraliste et spécialisée, ce premier opus a ouvert en 2007 une nouvelle dimension à l’histoire de Y825. Outre d’innombrables concerts en Suisse, le groupe effectue deux tournées en Irlande, en novembre 2007 et janvier 2008. La légende du rock Elliott Murphy n’est pas restée insensible à leur univers, engendrant diverses collaborations passées et futures.

The band was founded in 2003 in the underground scene of La Chaux-de-Fonds (CH) on the base of an alternative rock project which would combine the 70’s sonorities resulting from the first steps of the punk-rock and the last years of the heavy, while adding to it the textual themes of the folk and the traditional Americana.
The specific working atmosphere of the band’s hometown along with the personal experiments of each member are the first subjects inspirations tackled in Y825 (pronounced "why eight to five", allusion to the work’s schedules) music compositions.
Faithful to its predecessors, many line-up changes have punctuated the combo of the beginning, to finally find the good combination with the current formation. The influences and the musical background of each musician bring a completely exclusive key to the artistic of Y825, resulting in a universe of sober and direct rock without concession.

The legend of rock Elliott Murphy did not remain insensitive to their universe, generating various past and future collaborations together.
